description
This CBC, award winning Fifth Estate mini documentary takes an outside look at the American media and how it has digressed to a shouting match between liberals and conservatives where often big money dictates who is the loudest.

This short documentary offers us interviews by prominent conservatives and liberals to help us answer the unstated question, "Why do Americans allow their government to do what it does?"

OUR COMMENTS
This television documentary has been nominated by the Gimini Awards for Best Writing in an Information Program or Series, Best Picture Editing in an Information Program or Series and Best Direction in a News Information Program or Series.

"Sticks and Stones" secured hard to get interviews and did plenty of research for this short piece made for television audiences. Though working for the CBC currently, the interviewer Bob McKeown has worked with CBS and NBC for 13 years. The film presents a variety of interesting interviews with Phil Donahue, Al Franken, Charles Lewis and Ann Coulter.

The film also discusses the developments which led to Donahue's show being canceled and Dan Rather resigning. Whether you deem yourself liberal or conservative, or any other man made label, the interviews and examples of media hosts turned attack dogs is entertaining to watch. More importantly, the Fifth Estate explores the link between corporate money, journalism paranoia of being black listed, media kickbacks from the government and coordination between the White House and the media.
